Marshall Perry

G. Marshall Perry, Jr. was born in Rome, Georgia, on Jan. 27, 1949. His family moved to Greensboro in 1960, and he attended Grimsley High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1967 and served four years, plus an additional two years, in the Seabee Reserves. He was stationed in Newport, Rhode Island, where he met his wife Cynthia, and they married in 1971 and moved to Greensboro.

Marshall began his career with HVAC with the city of Greensboro, working in the Building and Maintence Department, and then moved over to the Inspections Department, eventually becoming Chief of the Plumbing and Heating Inspections Department. He retired in 2014 and immediately began working as a volunteer once a week at St. Francis Springs Prayer Center. Fr. Louis then asked him to be on staff and work two days a week, which later grew to three days.

At the Prayer Center, Marshall is the "jack of all trades," washing dishes, doing maintenance on all the buildings, and doing outside maintenance. Marshall finds the Center to be a peace-filled and holy place. Along with so many others Marshall says “As soon as you drive onto the grounds, a calming feeling comes upon you.”
