Black History Month Celebration

Black History Month Celebration

Please join us for our annual Black History Month Celebration!

We will begin at 3pm with a dedication of Hush Harbor — a new secluded outdoor prayer space along the extension of our trails. Historically, a Hush Harbor referred to a secret, secluded gathering place where enslaved African Americans met to worship, socialize and share religious expressions. Because assembling without supervision was illegal under slave codes, these spaces became sacred and secretive places. Hush Harbors are considered the foundation of the early Black church, laying the groundwork for independent black congregations.

Then, we will gather back in the chapel for the BHM Program from 4 - 6 pm, followed by dinner. We will reflect on Howard Thurman's life, and hear from several speakers and musicians, including the Meek Squad. Come and reflect on the role of justice and contemplation in your life in this beautiful celebration of our Black sisters and brothers.

This is a pay-what-you-want event, but the suggested donation is $25.
